Iowa Valley Resource Conservation & Development manages the byway project. They will be talking about the byway at 5:30pm on Thursday, October 8th at the Belle Plaine Area Museum located at 901 Main Street, Belle Plaine. Interested businesses, organizations and individuals are all invited to attend.
The Iowa Valley Scenic Byways travels through 14 communites, from Montour to the Amana Colonies. It is an engine for economic vitality, historic preservation, and tourism. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the byway coordinator, connect with other people from the byway, and learn about how the byway helps you.

Memorial event for U.S. Army soldier and Vinton native Dan Flaugh, is five days away and on track for meeting – and exceeding – the fundraising goal of at least $10,000 for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). This year’s event will also have Jeremiah Pauley, a representative from WWP, speak at the event.

This event is part of the City of Urbana’s Vision Iowa Grant. The City has partnered with Alliant Energy and Trees Forever to put on this event. They hope to have several volunteers throughout our community to help plant over 50 trees!
Please be sure to bring gloves and a shovel if you have one. Drinks and snacks will be provided in the morning and pizza after planting!

Come get your scare on at the Garrison Haunted House! There is more terror than every packed into the walls of this creepy corner.
This is an annual fundraiser for the Garrison Emergency Services. The production is put on by the Garrison Fire Department, Auxiliary members and a troop of volunteers. Proceeds from Garrison’s Haunted will be used for facility and equipment improvements for the Garrison Fire Department and Garrison First Responders.
Admission is $10. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by adults. There will be food available on the premise. All creeps and scares are kept inside so no need to worry about weather. To find Garrison’s Haunted, just get to Garrison and follow the signs—if you dare.
Virginia Gay Hospital and the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department are teaming up to host the 2nd Annual Benton County Community Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, October 17th at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. This fair will focus on health, wellness and safety topics that are of local interest.
This year we are offering local farmers and producers the opportunity to showcase and sell their products in a Farmers Market environment outside in the parking lot during the fair.
